PERSONAL INFORMATION PROVIDED BY YOU

We do not automatically collect any personally identifiable information. Nor does SharedBook specifically ask or knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We obtain personal information about you ONLY if you elect to give us that information and for the sole purpose of allowing you to upload and post content on our Web sites and to create or customize a book or product. We collect personal information when you register to our Web sites, respond to a survey on our Web sites and/or our Corporate Blog, use our customer service, purchase merchandise and/or when you communicate with us electronically. Following is the personal information that we may collect from you on one of our Web sites:

During Registration:

  • First name, last name and middle initial

And additionally, for AcademicPub Web site users:

  • Name of educational institution with which you are affiliated
  • Title/capacity (i.e., whether you are an authorized administrator or accredited faculty member)
  • Information required for the collection and payment of royalties for authorized use of Web site content
  • Course name, number and level
  • Start and End of Class for which the course pack is being created

During the Purchase Process:

  • Credit Card Number and Expiration Date
  • Billing Address
  • Shipping Address

If you register on our Corporate Blog, your personal identifiable information will be captured by Typepad.com and not SharedBook. Please review the privacy policy of Typepad.com if you wish to register to post responses on our Corporate Blog. SharedBook has no control over the privacy policy or other policies of Typepad.com.

And additionally, for AcademicPub Web site users:

USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

SharedBook does not sell or share your personal information with non-affiliated third-parties.

If you provide personal information to SharedBook, we may use it in the following limited ways:

  • SharedBook may use your name and email and postal address to send you information advising you of our upcoming events, new products, features and SharedBook Web sites and other related information. You can manage your Notification Preferences through your account which can be accessed by clicking on My Account on any webpage.
  • SharedBook will use your name and email address to notify you of the status of your online purchase of your book or products.
  • SharedBook may use personal information for internal purposes, such as tracking demographic data to make our Web sites more useful to users. SharedBook provides our SharedBook family of companies with your personal information in order to be able to provide our products and services to you.
  • SharedBook provides certain trusted third parties that we retain for the provision of technical or other services (for example, credit card processing and book publishing services) with access to personal information. However, third parties retained by SharedBook to provide such services are obligated to maintain the confidentiality of this information and are not authorized to use this information for any purpose other than providing those services.
  • Each of our clients and/or licensors provides us with content which allows us to create diverse Products for you to personalize and/or customize on each of the SharedBook Web sites. In order for you to get the full benefit of our clients' events, activities and information, we may share some of your personal information (such as name, email address and ID) with a client or licensor, but only when you log on to a SharedBook Web site for such client or request Web site content obtained from a licensor. We never share your credit card or any other financial information with any of our clients or licensors. Please note that the SharedBook Privacy Policy differs from our clients' privacy policies.

SharedBook will disclose personally identifiable information if required by law to do so. SharedBook will not share or sell your personally identifiable information to third parties who provide products, promotions and services.

WE AUTOMATICALLY COLLECT AND STORE NON-PERSONAL INFORMATION

In order to make our site more interesting and useful to you, we use standard browser (HTML) technology and cookies to automatically collect information on our site. Cookies are pieces of information that our Web site sends to your computer while you are viewing our Web site and are only used for users who have registered on some of our Web sites. However, we will combine this information with personally identifiable information to identify a visitor in order to enforce compliance with our User Agreement or to protect our products and service, our Web sites, guests or others.

This Privacy Policy applies to the SharedBook Web sites and our Corporate Blog. In order to provide more comprehensive and useful Web sites, our Web sites contain links to other Web sites that are not under our control. SharedBook is not responsible for the content of any linked Web site, the services provided or products purchased from such linked Web site, any changes or updates to such linked Web sites, or the privacy policies of such linked Web sites. Further, the inclusion of any link does not imply endorsement by SharedBook of that Web site or its terms and policies.

SECURITY

SharedBook goes to great lengths to protect the confidentiality and integrity of any personal information you share with us over the Internet.

Our Web sites have security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of the information under our control. SharedBook treats personal data such as credit card information as critical assets that must be guarded at all times against loss and unauthorized access. Our server is encrypted to protect credit card and other information submitted via the forms on our Web sites. Our Web server is located in a locked, secure environment. All databases containing personal information are securely stored and protected behind a firewall.

SharedBook will discontinue contact with any person upon oral or written request. Those wishing to receive communications from SharedBook can make that option during the registration process or by changing their permission settings in My Account.
